Adult Learners' Gateway
A DfES website providing links to advice on adult learning and information on government policy.

 

 

BBC Learning Zone
Information on BBC Two’s overnight record and play service, including WorkSkills@work - a four-hour series supporting the BBC@work campaign, which covers skills required in our working life such as literacy, numeracy and IT.

 

 

BBC Skillswise
Skillswise is an interactive adult literacy and numeracy resource from the BBC for tutors and learners. It aims to help adults improve their reading, writing and maths skills.

 

 

Move On
Move On is a national project aiming to share the success of a pilot project in Somerset and developing its approach further. It offers Level 1 and 2 learners the National Certificates in Adult Literacy and Numeracy with a free brush-up course, aiming to reach new learners who don't see themselves as needing help with their basic skills.

 

 

 

Nextstep
Nextstep offers free and impartial information and advice on learning and work to all adults who are 20 years and over. The organisation is funded by the Learning and Skills Council, so there is no charge to the client.

  

 

  

 

QCA
From September 2001 national qualifications in adult literacy and numeracy became available for the first time. The accreditation of these qualifications gives assurance to users that they are based on the national standards ensuring consistency in terms of level, demand, content and outcomes.

The UK's largest awarding body to offer a range of both general and specialist qualifications, including GCEs, GCSEs and BTEC qualifications, as well as NVQs, GNVQs and key skills.

Basic Skills Agency (BSA)
The BSA is the national agency for basic skills in England and Wales and is supported by the Government. This site contains information about the Agency, along with basic skills news and events, and details of programmes on offer.

 

 

Campaign for Learning (CfL)
CfL is a national charity. It was created to champion the causes of life long learning.

 

 

Department for Education and Skills
The Government department responsible for lifelong learning. This site provides information about Government initiatives, Ministerial responsibility within the Department as well as publications, speeches and press releases.

 

 

Jobcentre Plus
With nearly half a million jobs online, Jobcentre Plus helps job-seekers and employers get the most out of the employment market.

 

 

Learning and Skills Council (LSC)
The LSC is responsible for funding and planning education and training for over 16-year-olds in England.

 

 

National Grid for Learning (NGfL)
NGfL portals bring together a vast and growing collection of sites that support education and lifelong learning.

 

 

New Deal
This is a key part of the Government’s Welfare to Work strategy. It gives New Deal job-seekers aged 18-24, 25 plus, 50 plus and those with disabilities a real chance to develop their potential, gain skills and experience and find work.
